LIFE OF A CITY

What Does Leeds Mean to YOU?

We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.”

Jo Cox, former Labour Party MP for Spen and Bately

Artists Bruce Davies, Paul Digby and Jonathan Turner delivered a number of workshops and art works looking at the above question as well as the Jo Cox quote and each based around their practice as artists. They worked in the Vale Circles, Lovell Park Hub and Stocks Hill Hub.

They used the mediums of drawing, photography and writing to produce a one-off newspaper driven by the work produced by participants in these workshops. They invited people initially to a presentation and introductory workshops at each centre. The workshops introduced the participants to the work of Bruce Davies (experimental writing and sound), Paul Digby (drawing) and Jonathan Turner (photography) Each artist ran a solo workshop later on allowing participants to take part in a collaborative project.

COMPLETING THE PICTURE: Davies, Digby & Turner also created a series of art works in response to the centres and themes around alienation and isolation. This web page extends that which could not make it’s way into the publication for reasons of space and format.

With thanks to: everyone that took part in the workshops, Leeds Adults and Health Staff and Leeds Inspired.
