Annabelle Richmond-Wright | I’ve Got You, You’ve Got Me Supporting Document

A 3 minute film depicting the drive, skill, abilities and ambition of BasementArtsProject and Annabelle Richmond-Wright

Ticker tape text transcript: Since 2011 BasementArtsProject has been presenting a programme of exhibitions, workshops, concerts and other cultural events, aimed at the community of South Leeds, involving many early career artists alongside those of a more established nature. Many have gone on to exhibit elsewhere in the world and have had their work accepted and bought into collections public and private. This has included a charity sale by James a 10year old local boy with Autism and ADHD and included appearances on Blue Peter and Look North. Over time this has led us to do projects that attempt to improve the environment and people's quality of life locally, Cleaning up patches of abandoned ground and giving people a sense of ownership and responsibility. The project continues to make this corner of South Leeds an impressive cultural gateway into the City of Leeds, loved, supported and looked after by the communities that have been part of developing it. We have two more sites within 100 yards of this project by Annabelle Richmond-Wright: 'I've Got You, You've Got Me’ that are in the planning stages to happen over the next couple of years … We will keep you posted.

Testimonial from the community

We are very privileged to have Basement Arts in South Leeds. You cannot imagine that it exists in what looks like an ordinary house in a area such as this. Very ambitious plans for the Jacob Ladder sculpture seemed unbelievable when I first heard about them. A sculpture here , not in town ? Interesting reading in the article of all the different kinds of people who have watched this project progress. Many other people would love to have had an opportunity to see any sculpture progressing. The experience has touched people’s lives in a way that no-one can predict. Thank you to all involved , changing lives in a different way.
